TRAUMA-FOCUSED THERAPY

When something deeply distressing and disturbing happens to us, that thing that feels the most difficult to talk about, therapy can be a way to cope and a place to learn to cope.  
My goal when working with clients who have been traumatized is to create a safe environment in which to process trauma to resolve symptoms associated with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, such as intrusive thoughts, nightmares, and that continual feeling that you are unsafe.  I do this using Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy as a primary modality along with helping trauma victims take back their power and control their thoughts about their experience.  This can include helping support families of trauma victims, educating victims about effects of trauma, including what to expect right after the traumatic event vs years after it has occurred, and a place where you can discuss trauma without judgement.
